Anyone who has played at some new slot sites, and played some of the best, may take one look at this game and immediately think, Gonzo’s Quest by Netent. In fact, as soon as we scanned our eyes across its title, we were instantly reminded of that game. It’s a shame really, because Microgaming doesn’t really do a whole lot to differentiate this offering from the Netent option, apart from give you a different character in Jungle Jim and five extra pay lines in comparison. So, you’ll take on the role of the avid explorer, searching for the lost city of El Dorado alongside Jim. And while this may have a similarity to the previously noted game, one cannot knock Microgaming for their stellar use of graphics and overall design, because it’s very high quality. And, Jim will always be watching on from the sidelines as you spin the reels, ensuring that you’re going in the right direction towards your goal.

Grab Your Bag and Set Off on Your Journey

This one incorporates a total of five reels and three rows, so everything is quite standard in terms of its general layout. It’s upon these reels that you will find the various different icons, and these exist initially in the form of a selection of different precious stones – a blue one, a green one, a red one and an orange one. They’re joined by a selection of different ancient Aztec designs, including a totem pole, a pillar with a serpent wrapped around it and a totem head to be prayed to. There’s also the addition of a treasure chest on top of this, filled with golden nuggets. All wins in the game will pay left to right, and if you spin five treasure chests onto a winning pay line, this will provide you with the maximum standard pay out of 2,700 coins.

Microgaming have ensured that they slightly up the Netent game in terms of paylines, offering up a 25 bet line selection. These cannot be customised or altered in any way, so you’ll always be betting on this amount. However, you can change around the value of the wager that you place, and this is done by altering the size of a single coin between £0.01 and £0.10, while the amount of coins on each pay line can be changed between one and 10. Therefore, a maximum overall wager of £25.00 is able to be played per spin. An ‘Auto Play’ button is also included in the game, giving you the chance to play up to 100 consecutive spins at the same bet level.

Jim’s Special Tools

You can rest assured that Jim won’t allow you to go searching for El Dorado without the necessary tools, and in this game, that means special features. Unfortunately, the first of these is the rolling reels addition, and we’re instantly reminded of Gonzo’s Quest once more. Rolling reels can award multiple consecutive wins, and this is triggered whenever a combination is formed. The icons included in the win will disappear, creating a gap for new symbols to fall in to. Furthermore, the multiplier that can be seen in the top right hand side of the screen will increase with each new cascade, up to a maximum of times 15.

There’s also the addition of a scatter icon in the game, which looks like some kind of ancient calendar or sundial. These offer pay outs wherever they show up on the reels, and if you spin three or more of them on to the reels in any location, 10 freespins will be provided. If you spin three more scatters onto the reels during this round, you’ll have the ability to re-trigger the freespins round.

Finally, there’s the addition of the wild icon, and this is represented by the Jungle Jim logo. As a wild symbol, this substitutes for all others on the reels, except for the aforementioned scatter.

To Summarise

It’s a shame that this offering has so many of the same features as the Netent’s offering in this Indiana Jones like adventure slots theme which works on the same theme, because as a stand alone, it is a really intriguing option to play. However, you’re always, without a doubt, going to get the comparisons between the two. On the whole though, it manages to provide gamers with a visually appealing product with intriguing special additions alongside.
