For those of you who are familiar with classic movies, the title of this NextGen Gaming offering should come with no confusion. However, for those of you who aren’t so interested in cinema, King Kong is one of the silver screen’s great motion pictures. The character of Kong is a giant monster, resembling a huge ape, and it’s actually been in several media items since the year of 1933, when it first appeared in the movie known as King Kong. The film received universal acclaim upon its release, and it was remade in 1976 and once more in 2005, becoming one of the most famous monster icons. It’s the original film that this game is inspired by, presenting you with those classic look reels. There’s a cityscape in the background, and a somewhat dulled down soundtrack incorporated into it as well. As you’ll find out from this slot review however, there’s a great supply of high quality graphics involved and game play is up to the usual NextGen Gaming top standard.

Don’t Anger the Ape!

You’ll see from the moment that you load up the game, that there are five reels and three rows worth of a layout on display. This presents you with a fairly standard affair as far as interfaces are concerned, and the developer has also added a total of 25 different pay lines into it. These cannot be customised in any way though. The symbols which have been integrated into the reels are all relative to the movie, starting with a pair of cinema tickets and followed up with a pair of iron shackles. These are joined by a skull, a filming camera, a tarantula with crab claws and a huge ship. There’s also an image of a plane as well as the infamous T-Rex. The final two symbols exist in the form of the main human characters from the movie, Ann Darrow and Carl Denham.

As we noted, there isn’t any possibility of adjusting the amount of lines in play, but players can alter the value of the wager that they place per spin. This is done by changing the value of a single coin between £0.01 and £2.00 per line, and it therefore allows all players to place a maximum overall wager of £50 per spin. There’s also the inclusion of an ‘Autoplay‘ button, which allows you to spin up to a maximum of 100 consecutive times at the same bet level.

Fight Your Way Past the Monsters

It’s a common known fact that doing battle against huge T-Rex’s and terrifying tarantulas is something that isn’t to be taken lightly, and NextGen Gaming have incorporated several special features into this game to enable your battles to go a bit smoother. The first is the wild symbol, which is represented by the icon of King Kong himself. This appears on reels two, three and four only, and when it does show up it will substitute for any other symbol on the reels, except for the scatters, in order to form a winning combination.

When the wild symbol land on the third reel, you’ll also trigger the game’s ‘King Kong Goes Ape‘ feature. All positions on the third reel will turn into wild icons and extra wilds may also be revealed on reels two and four as well.

As far as the scatter icon of this one is concerned, this is represented by the game’s own logo. Scatter wins are multiplied by the bet placed, so if you spin five of them in to view, your wager is multiplied by times 2,500. Furthermore, if three or more of these icons come into view, the ‘King Kong Smash Feature‘ is triggered. You can win up to 150 free games with all prizes doubled in this round. You simply need to select planes for Kong to smash and keep smashing them until three are missed. Depending upon the number of planes hit, you’ll receive anywhere between 15 and 150 freespins. Alternatively, you can opt to take a mystery prize instead of the free games.
