The first thing that greets you as you load this slot game up is the ambient background music. It’s so befitting of the game that you almost expect to see the Aurora Borealis come into view at any time. Snowflakes from NextGen Gaming has atmosphere. It has an aura. And it has qualities that make it an appealing game to play on the whole. It all takes place against a backdrop of a frozen lake at night-time, with misty forest trees visible at either side. It offers up intriguing features from the get go, and that just the visual side. And while we’re speaking of such, let’s take a moment to actually appreciate this. The graphics on display in Snowflakes are exceptionally superior. Playing this game, we can guarantee that NextGen Gaming will be high on your favourites of developers. But, what exactly does it contain to make it so special? Let’s have a look.
Catch a Snowflake on Your Tongue!
The design of this game presents itself on a five reel and three row interface. This is not so unique as far as slot games go, but instead should be fairly familiar. Alongside its reels and rows, players will also have the opportunity to bet on 25 different pay lines. This is a feature of Snowflakes that you cannot customise in any way. However, you do have the chance to change around the value of the wager that you place. This is easily done in one of two ways. There are the up and down arrows at the bottom left of the reels firstly. Alternatively, you can select the game options button and this will provide you a slider bar for coins. With these, you can adjust your wager between £0.01 and £20 per line. Therefore, if you have this up at its highest level, your maximum wager possibility stands at £600 per spin.
Moving back to the game’s visual appeal, you’ll be able to see that its reels and rows feature various different icons. They’re all in the form of actual snowflakes. However, you know the saying that every single snowflake is different, right? Well, it certainly holds true in this game as there are several different snowflake icons on display. To begin with, there are five small ones, each of which is a different colour shade. There’s the purple one, the green one, the light blue one, the pink one and the dark blue one. Each of these is able to provide a maximum pay out of 100 times your wager. Next up are two bigger snowflakes in purple and blue. Then, you’ll see another two larger snowflakes in turquoise and purple, each of which has an increasing pay out amount. Finally, the highest paying standard symbol is the clear, almost crystal-like snowflake. This can multiply your bet by times 400 if five of them should show up on the reels.
Dance in the Falling Snow
The theme of this game is actually quite basic when you think about it. However, that doesn’t stop NextGen Gaming from incorporating some intriguing special feature rounds. To start off with, you’ll get to see a wild icon on the game’s reels. This one will stand in for all others in order to form a winning combination. Five of them on a winning pay line will see that you receive a maximum pay out of 500 times your bet! Furthermore, there is a single exception to the substitution rule, and that comes in the form of the scatter icon.
And when it comes to the scatter icon, this is the almost football-shaped piece of ice. Scatters ensure a pay out is given in whatever location they appear in. These will multiply your bet in play as well, with five of them providing a multiplier of times 2,500! The scatter provides an additional function as well – triggering the freespins round. If three, four or five of them come into view anywhere, you’ll receive 7, 10 or 15 freespins respectively. Any wild coming into view during this round is help in position for the duration. And one more thing to note, is that freespins can re-trigger while the feature is active.
There’s also the addition of two more random features. The first of these is the Icy Wild Feature. Following any spin, this can become active. If it happens, you will see up to five symbols transform into wilds. These will then work in the same way as the standard wild and substitute others to form wins. There’s also the addition of the Wild Wind Feature. This can come into effect during any spin. This sees up to five wild icons take position on the reels, one per reel, for that spin.
The Final Word
Upon first hearing the title of Snowflakes, it doesn’t particularly invoke ideas of a stellar slot. However, NextGen Gaming completely toss that notion out of the window. The superior graphics of this game as well as its appealing special features make it altogether a great addition to the developer’s catalogue.
