It’s been seen several times before in our online slots reviews that a simple and minimalist approach to designing online slot games can be just as effective, if not more so, than creating something that is flushed with excesses of graphics. You only need to take a look at games like Staburst or Dazzle Me from Netent to understand what we’re talking about. Spectra, which is developed and provided by the Thunderkick company, takes on a similar kind of role, not really providing any kind of huge theme other than the colour spectrum. It’s laid out against a black and purple background, while the symbols which are included upon the reels are extremely simple. In saying that, they’re still designed with high quality graphics, giving you a very visually appealing game, whilst at the same time being easy and simple on the whole. Thunderkick have also included a general soundtrack alongside, and if, like us, you have an interest in the more basic of slot games, Spectra could be just the one for you.

I See Your True Colours…Shining Through…

As far as the layout of the actual interface is concerned, there are five reels added alongside four rows, so it’s a slightly bigger design than the standard offering. It’s upon these reels that you’ll find the game’s various icons, starting with simple-lined shapes – a blue circles, a turquoise triangle, a green square, a purple rhombus and a red hexagon. In addition to these symbols, you’ll also find that there are symbols of a four-leaf clover, a bell, a number 7, a BAR and, finally, the letter ‘W‘ in multiple colours. As noted, upon first seeing the icons, they do look very basic, but they really work exceptionally well with the overall design.

Alongside the reels, rows and icons of Spectra, the developer has added a total of 30 different pay lines, and these cannot be adjusted in any way. However, all players can change around the wager that they decide to place per round. This is done by clicking on the current bet, which will bring up a table of available options. The bets start from a minimum of £0.10 and increase up to a maximum amount of £100, which provides the maximum overall wager available to you. Not only that, but there’s an ‘Auto Play‘ button involved as well, which allows you to spin up to a maximum of 5,000 consecutive times at the same wager level.

Additional Basic Features

Like other games in the same vein as this one, Spectra doesn’t have a huge amount of special features included in it, but the ones that are incorporated provide rounds of entertainment which are suitable to the theme. The aforementioned multi-coloured ‘W‘ symbol acts as its wild icon, and this stands in for any other symbol on the reels in order to form a winning combination. These always appear in stacks on the fourth reel.

When new wild stacks come into view, you’ll also trigger a re-spin of the reels at the same time. During each of these re-spins, the wild stacks will nudge one position vertically towards the centre of the reels.

To Summarise

There’s little that is left to be said about Spectra, other than it’s to pick one of the new slot sites and start playing it. Due to its simplicity, it holds very few wonders, but everything is wrapped together in a perfectly appealing game. Whenever you spin the reels, you’ll see several lines of spectrum colours emanating out from the central section at the bottom, and it’s even this that enables you to have a more thoroughly entertaining experience while playing the game. Add to this the great range of Thunderkick’s own graphics, apt soundtrack and general overall gameplay, and you’ve got yourself a thoroughly intriguing offering from this developer.
