If the first Superman game from Playtech wasn’t enough for you, perhaps Superman II will be just what you need. Join us as we look at the ins and outs of this slot and all of its features. The below review of the slot tells you all that you need to know before playing.

Everyone knows that after the success of the first Superman film starring Christopher Reeve, a second movie wasn’t far behind. In 1980, Superman II came to cinema screens around the world and was a box office success. The film, which brought three criminals in to its screenplay to face off against the titular hero, is what Playtech base this second offering on. And what would a slot game such as this be without the addition of music? While you’re spinning the reels, the movie’s own soundtrack blares out through your speakers. This invokes many memories of scenes from the film and adds to the entertainment value. Not only that, but Playtech have also upped the ante as far as the graphics in this film go. So, if you’re ready to assist Superman in defeating his enemies, read on to find out more about this game.

Three Kryptonian Criminals Await You

The design of this slot game doesn’t really differ so much from the first Playtech offering. It still contains five reels, although its rows have been reduced to three instead of four. This falls in line with the more frequently seen video slot layouts. Upon these reels and rows, you’ll find the various different symbols. These begin, much like the first Superman game, with the A, K, Q and J symbols. However, following on from this, you’ll see an icon of green kryptonite as well as another of Clark Kent’s glasses. The three evil criminals in this game are next. Ursa and Non provide maximum pay outs of 150 times your wager, while General Zod offers up a higher amount of up to times 200. Finally, the last two standard symbols are those of Lois Lane and Superman. The latter of these can provide 1,000 times your wager if five show up on a winning pay line!

As well as providing intriguing icons and a general layout, Playtech have made sure to add 25 pay lines to this game too. This differs to the first Superman game, which contains 100 in total. Bet lines are not able to go through any changes, so you’ll always be betting on 25 altogether. However, players do have the chance to alter the wager that they play per spin. This is done with the relevant plus and minus buttons at the bottom of the reels. There, you’re able to switch between £0.01 per line and £1 per line. This means that a maximum overall wager possibility of $25 per spin exists in the game. You’ll also see the inclusion of the ‘Auto Play’ and ‘Turbo Mode’ buttons. These give you a little more customisation options for playing around with.

It’s Time to Save the City!

Superman is, of course, the superhero that Earth needs. Doing battle against three criminals from his home planet cannot be easy. It’s up to you to assist him by spinning the reels and triggering bonus features. The first of these is present in the game’s wild icon. Representing this symbol is the Superman logo. As a wild, it substitutes for all other icons on the reels, except for the Daily Planet logo, in order to form a winning combination. If you spin five wilds onto a single winning pay line, you’ll receive a bet multiplier of times 5,000! Further to this, Superman can randomly fly across the reels during the base game. If he does, he will turn up to four random icons into wilds.

And speaking of the Daily Planet logo, this one can show up on reels one, three and five only. If it does so in any location, you’ll trigger the Daily Planet Headline round. With this, you need to hit the ‘Stop’ button to randomly select one of the five bonus feature rounds on offer from the newspaper headlines!

The first of the bonus features that you can access is the Phantom Zone. This round provides you with an unlimited amount of free spins! Each of these spins will see the phantom zone occupy a different 2×2 area on the reels. This acts like a wild symbol for you. A different item is also selected by the superhero reel at the bottom of the screen on every free spin. This can exist in the form of multipliers, stored Superman icons or the icon which will end the free spins round.

There’s also the chance to activate the Battle for Metropolis round. This sees you, as Superman, go up against the villains from Krypton. Pick one of the Superman shields in each stage of the bonus to reveal a cash prize, special item or collect symbol. The latter of these will terminate the feature round and you’ll receive the full amount. A green kryptonite icon will store itself and cancel the next ‘Collect’ symbol. The x-ray symbol will reveal all symbols in the stage and automatically award the top prize!

Skyline Fight is another bonus round you’re able to trigger. This is a 10 free spins round with an initial one time multiplier if Superman appears anywhere on reel three. Any of these appearing after this will increase the multiplier up to a maximum of times five. If the General Zod icon shows up on reel three, this resets the multiplier to times one.

There’s also the X-Ray Vision free spins available as well. You have a total of 15 free spins and any X-Ray icon showing on reel three will become a wild symbol. It will also add another two Superman logo wilds on to reels two and four. Finally, the fifth bonus feature is the Lois and Clark round. This presents you with multiple shields and you need to keep picking until you have five of the same colour symbol.

The only other thing to make a note of, is that this game also provides you with the opportunity to win a jackpot. It’s a part of the DC Super Heroes progressive network, and this provides four different values. One of these can be won at random, regardless of bet size or play time.

The Final Word

Despite Superman II having a smaller size layout and less pay lines than its predecessor, it more than makes up for this in its special features. Multiple free spin rounds, a wild and a scatter icon on the reels, the fight scenes. Everything comes together to create a perfect offering for new casino sites running the Playtech skin.
