Tokidoki might sound like a completely bizarre name for an online slot game, especially when it’s followed by ‘Lucky Town’, but all will be pleasantly revealed when you play it. In actual fact, tokidoki, which means “sometimes” in Japanese, is a lifestyle brand created in 2005 by Italian artist Simone Legno. Using the same theme, he and his business partners Pooneh Mohajer and Ivan Arnold have produced apparel, footwear, accessories and multiple other products using the iconic characters. And now, of course, it has made its way to the world of online gaming. This one, known as Lucky Town, features vibrant colours, exceptional characters and wonderful game play, and it’s all presented to you as part of the IGT catalogue of games. There’s also a zany piece of soundtrack music incorporated into it as well, which would sound right at home in any Japanese animated feature.

Be Dazzled with Colours

As far as the actual design of the game is concerned, you’ll be presented with a five reel and three row offering, meaning that if you’ve played slots before, you’ll certainly be catered to easily enough with this one. It’s these familiar reels which also house the various different game icons, and these begin with the often used A, J, K, Q and 10 icons, all of which have had characters stamped onto them. And speaking of characters, there are four other standard character symbols – a donut character called Donutella, one of the Cactus Friends, a third from the Moofia, and the final one being from the Unicorno clan. There’s also the heart and crossbones icon taken from the company logo.

Alongside its reels and rows, the developer has included a total of 40 different pay lines, and you’ll see that ublike many games featured in online slots reviews these are not able to be customised in any way, and there’s the addition of a feature added alongside this. One thing that you do have the chance to customise though, is the amount of the wager that you place per spin. You’ll be able to see that there’s the ‘Coin Value’ box at the bottom of the screen, and this begins from a minimum value of £1 and increases up to a maximum level of £10, meaning that your total overall wager can reach as high as £600 per round. Something that this game does not provide, unlike many others, is the possibility of using an auto play button.

Cute Characters and Special Additions

It’s one thing to have a game with unique characters, theme and overall gameplay, but it’s quite another to incorporate entertaining and appealing special features into said game as well. Tokidoki is one such game that manages to include these features and the very first additional perk is the ‘Reel Reveal’ inclusion. This is triggered by the icon that looks like a vinyl record with a face, and this only appears on reel five in the base game before shifting one reel to the left on each of the Reel Reveal spins. This awards an extra Reel Reveal spin with an additional feature!

The additional features provided via this round are activated by a specific icon. The first of these is the character known as Caramella, and she is a wild icon. If she shows up, she’ll activate the Random Wild feature, turning up to three positions on the reels into wilds. The second icon is Truffle, who awards a multiplier from times two to times 15, multiplying all wins on the current Reel Reveal spin. Pogo the unicorn is the third symbol included, and he triggers the Expanding Wild feature, turning its two left adjacent reels into total wilds.

If you reveal the carton of milk icon, you will be presented with several of these, one of which you need to pick. This provides a multiplier of between times one and times 10 the amount of your bet placed. Finally, if you reveal any of the standard character symbols, these will trigger the Symbol Upgrade feature, turning all matching character symbols into wilds!

In addition to this, there’s a standard wild icon as well, represented by the company logo with a ‘2x’ image on it. This will not only substitute for other icons, but will also double your pay out as well!

To Summarise

While it did not make it to our selection of the best oriental themed slots, if you enjoy animé, then you’ll certainly enjoy the Tokidoki Lucky Town game from IGT. However, we think that it appeals to a wider audience as well, providing intriguing special features, high quality graphics and, overall, a perky theme behind it.
